One step closer to real health insurance reform

This week we are closer than ever to seeing real health insurance reform become a reality, thanks to the leadership of Sen. Harry Reid and Congresswomen Dina Titus and Shelley Berkley.

This bill will reduce the deficit by more than $100 billion in the next 10 years by eliminating waste, fraud and abuse, and ending overpayments, and will ensuring 95% of Americans have health insurance, expanding coverage to 32 million more Americans.

The House is poised to pass the legislation Sunday, and the Senate will debate the bill next week.

Meanwhile, the momentum behind this crucial reform is enormous.

We’re also gaining the support of newspapers and advocacy groups around the country – endorsements have ranged from the AARP to the Ameircan Medical Association to the National Catholic Reporter to the Washington Post to the Federation of American Hospitals.

More than 250 groups have join us in the call to pass health insurance reform now – doctors, nurses and consumer groups. Clergy, small businesses, farmers, seniors and young people have all spoken out in support of reform.
