Senator Harry Reid brought Social Security to the forefront in the race for U.S. Senatee calling Sharron Angle out on an interview she gave where she said we need to "phase out Social Security and Medicare."
Local senior citizens are getting the message and they say they're angry.
Members of the Nevada Alliance for Retired Americans called to order an emergency meeting at the Labor Temple in Sparks to discuss Social Security and why they believe it's in jeopardy if Sharron Angle wins in November.
"When you talk like a duck, and you walk like a duck, you're a duck, and now she's trying to in some cases say 'I didn't say that' in other cases say 'well not privatize but personalize.' Well, what does that mean? It's still trying to do something with Social Security so that's the other thing that's firing people up," says Scott Watts.
The Alliance for Retired Americans says it will do all it can to prevent an Angle victory in November.
It asked each of its members to educate at least ten of their fellow retirees on Social Security and Angle's proposals for it.
We called Sharron Angle's campaign and got this response. "Sharron Angle believes that the government must continue to keep its contract with seniors who retire into the system on good faith and will be depending on that contract."
