Joe Heck Pads Six-Figure, Taxpayer-Funded Salary With Unemployment Benefits

After Voting Against Extending Unemployment Insurance

Las Vegas, NV – Is it what’s good for the goose is good for the gander – or what’s good enough for Joe Heck is not good enough for unemployed Nevadans?  Last year, Heck managed to block an extension of unemployment benefits AND vote to raise taxes on middle class families – all in the same vote.  This would be pretty impressive if it wasn’t, you know, shameful.

But today, Politico reported that while Joe Heck is perfectly willing to let Nevadans struggling to find work go without unemployment benefits, Heck himself is actually benefitting from unemployment insurance.  That’s right - a guy who makes $174,000 a year is actually benefitting from unemployment insurance after voting against extending the same relief to Nevada families.   Out-of-touch much?

“After voting against extending unemployment benefits for out-of-work Nevadans, it's blatant hypocrisy that Joe Heck is padding his six-figure salary with unemployment insurance,” said Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Zach Hudson.  “While we don’t expect someone who repeatedly called Social Security a ‘pyramid scheme’ to fight for Nevada’s middle class, Heck’s hypocrisy on this issue is outrageous even for him.”
