NV Dems Statement on Romney’s Republican Party Inserting into Their Platform a Ban on Abortion Even in Cases of Rape and Incest

Las Vegas, NV – Nevada State Democratic Party Chair Roberta Lange released the following statement in response to the Republican Party Platform Committee including in their platform a ban on abortions nationwide, without exceptions for rape and incest:

“It is outrageous that only days after Rep. Todd Akin’s disgusting comments that women who are raped rarely get pregnant, the Romney-Ryan-lead Republican Party would continue these attacks on women’s health by inserting into their Party’s platform a ban on abortion even in cases of rape and incest.  To be clear – this platform was written at the direction of Romney’s campaign and demonstrates where Mitt Romney’s views are on women’s health.  Unfortunately, this comes as no surprise given Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan’s extreme record on women’s issues.  Both Republican candidates have vowed to eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood.  And while Romney and Ryan may be trying to distance themselves from Todd Akin, Ryan has been in lockstep with Akin for years – even working  with him to try to narrow the definition of rape and outlaw abortion for rape victims.  Nevadans have a clear choice between President Obama’s commitment to moving our country forward by creating jobs and protecting women’s health, and a Romney-Ryan agenda that would set women’s health back decades.”
