Las Vegas, NV – Tonight at midnight marks the deadline for submitting comments to urge the Department of Interior to save national monuments designated under the Obama Administration. Today is the second anniversary of Basin and Range National Monument, but a recent Trump executive order threatens these monument designations.
Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II released the following statement:
“Nevadans know that protections for Gold Butte and Basin and Range defend our natural heritage and support jobs in the outdoor recreation industry. While our state’s Democratic leaders are fully engaged in the fight to save our national monuments, it’s disappointing that Republican politicians in Washington like Senator Heller, Congressman Amodei and President Trump are waging an unprecedented and unpopular attack on these spectacular public lands. I urge all Nevadans to make their voices heard today and send a message to the Trump Administration about why we oppose any efforts to eliminate or weaken protections at our national monuments.”
