NV Dems Statement on GOP Treasurer Dan Schwartz Running for Governor

“Schwartz’s announcement sets the stage for a nasty and chaotic Republican primary that will be a race to the far right for the Nevada GOP”

Las Vegas, NV – Conservative businessman and Nevada State Treasurer Dan Schwartz officially announced today at the Republican Men’s Club’s monthly luncheon that he will run for Governor in 2018, setting the stage for a nasty and chaotic Republican primary. Schwartz is a self-funding Republican who has been the state’s loudest advocate for a radical school voucher program giving taxpayer money to wealthy families to send their kids to private school.

Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II released the following statement: “While some establishment Republicans have been eager to anoint Adam Laxalt for Governor, Dan Schwartz’s self-funded campaign is poised to put a wrench in their best-laid plans. Adam Laxalt’s ethics problems and abuse of his office for his biggest campaign donor will be front and center in Schwartz’s primary campaign against the uninspiring puppet Attorney General who’s been ‘bought’ by billionaire Sheldon Adelson. Schwartz’s announcement sets the stage for a nasty and chaotic Republican primary that will be a race to the far right for the Nevada GOP. No matter who emerges from this primary, the Republican nominee will inevitably be deeply flawed and too extreme to serve as Nevada’s next Governor.”
