Silence from Laxalt, Schwartz on Charlottesville Violence & Trump’s Defense of White Supremacists

by Nevada Democrats

Attorney General Adam Laxalt and Treasurer Dan Schwartz – two Nevada Republicans gearing up to run for Governor in 2018 – have both been noticeably silent in recent days on the topic of Charlottesville. Neither Republican has said a word about the racist violence that occurred this past weekend, or expressed any opinion on President Trump’s disturbing response defending white supremacists as “fine people.”

Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II, our state party’s first African American Chair in history, released the following statement:

“Nevadans watched with horror as racism and violence exploded in Charlottesville over the weekend, and the ongoing silence from Dan Schwartz and Adam Laxalt is deafening and impossible to explain. It’s a disappointing sign of the campaign to come if neither of these far-right Republicans are willing to publicly condemn neo-Nazis, white supremacists and the Ku Klux Klan as they terrorize American cities. When will Dan Schwartz and Adam Laxalt speak up and take a stand against this hateful ideology?”

ICYMI -- @GovSandoval: “The attack in #Charlottesville is horrific & should never happen in the US. NV stands in solidarity w/ all who march against hatred & racism.”
