Las Vegas, NV – You know what we love about Assembly Republicans – if you don’t like their leadership team, just wait until they pick new leaders the following week! Tonight, the Cliven Bundy Fan Club Assembly Republican Caucus announced Governor Brian Sandoval and Lieutenant Governor-elect (and out-of-touch millionaire) Mark Hutchison’s latest leadership team for Assembly Republicans.
From a new Majority Whip who said he’d vote for slavery if his constituents wanted it, to a GOP Assembly Leader who is one of racist rancher Cliven Bundy’s staunchest defenders, to the former Hutchoval Speaker-Designee Ira Hanson still holding power in this caucus even after his racist, homophobic, and anti-women rants were exposed, the “Hutchoval Sweep” Assembly Team is quite a cast of characters. And they’d be an entertaining cast of characters, if they were in a “Hollywood” movie like the cult-classic “Siren”, and not in powerful positions in the Nevada Legislature.
But, while it’s easy to mock the members of the Hutchoval Sweep, their dangerous agenda for Nevada working families is not funny at all. Hutchoval’s Leadership Team has indicated that restricting access to abortion, making it harder to vote for Nevada seniors and military families, and taking money out of public schools to subsidize parents who can afford to send their kids to private schools are their top priorities, not creating jobs or funding education. Oh — and…um…“prayer in public schools.”
“While the faces may change every week, the reality is it doesn’t matter which Republicans were selected tonight to serve as Brian Sandoval and Mark Hutchison’s spokespeople in the Assembly,” said Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Zach Hudson. “The Hutchoval Republican caucus in the Assembly has made clear they will pursue a radical social and ideological agenda that will hurt working families, make it harder for seniors and military families to vote, and restrict women’s access to preventative healthcare. Brian Sandoval and Mark Hutchison endorsed these extreme and out-of-touch Republicans, and now that the Hutchoval ‘sweep’ has brought them into power, they own this agenda.”
