Nevada Democratic Party Joins in Coalition With Other Local Organizations to Host Major School Supply Drive

LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Democratic Party has joined a coalition of organizations led by Las Vegas DSA, which also includes Clark County Dems, Red Rock Dems, Left Caucus, Mass Liberation, Muslim Dems, National Lawyer’s Guild Las Vegas, PLAN, United Movement Organized Kindness (UMOK), the Fifth Sun Project, the Solidarity Fridge, and Sunrise Las Vegas, to host a large-scale school supply drive to benefit students and teachers in the area. The Nevada Dems office at 2310 Paseo Del Prado, Suite A120 is a drop-off location for community members wishing to donate supplies. People who want to donate funds can do so at https://lvdsa.org/school-solidarity/, and that link can also be used to sign up to receive supplies.

“It’s a real honor for NV Dems to be able to work in coalition with so many great partners for something that so directly impacts our community,” said Nevada Democratic Party Chair Judith Whitmer. “It’s a real sign of unity among people from everywhere on the Democratic and progressive spectrum that when it’s time to help out our community, we all rise to the occasion and work together. We look forward to the day when this sort of drive isn’t needed; when students and teachers have everything they need provided. Doing this sort of coalition work helps us prepare for the legislative fights we need to win in order to get to that day.”

“Families, students and teachers have been through a lot, and we want to make the return to the classroom as smooth as possible. We also know that school supplies can be a financial burden that impacts learning, and we and our partners want to step in to help,” said Anthony Lambert, a steering committee member of Las Vegas DSA, which is leading coordination efforts for the drive. “My wife’s a teacher, my mother has worked for the school district for over a decade, and I previously worked in youth development. I know how important proper school supplies are, and I also know how they can easily slip through the cracks if a family is struggling to make ends meet. I’m glad that so many members of our community are coming together for this event.

Journalists please note: supply pickup is on August 7th from 11:00am – 2:00pm at United Movement Organized Kindness, located at 1010 N. Main Street and organizers will be on site for interviews; please schedule in advance if you would like an interview at a different time. For images, please click here and here.
