Nevada Pastor Slams Trump’s ‘Failure of Moral Leadership’

Ahead of today’s ‘Evangelicals for Trump’ campaign event, Nevada faith leader Pastor Phillip Washington called out Donald Trump and Mike Pence’s catastrophic pandemic response and failures of moral leadership. Pastor Washington serves as the Senior Pastor of Promised Land Community Church in Las Vegas, and has been on the frontlines of the fight for racial and economic justice for Nevada communities.

Pastor Phillip Washington released the following statement:

“Today’s event is nothing more than a cheap political stunt that will do nothing to distract from Donald Trump and Mike Pence’s failed response to the coronavirus crisis. Pastors and presidents both share a powerful pulpit to help shepherd our communities through times of crisis. But Trump has given a terrible new meaning to the term ‘bully pulpit’ with his failure of moral leadership during the pandemic, from attacking medical experts and delaying economic relief for working families to gambling with children’s health and safety.”

“Throughout the course of his presidency, Trump has used the Bible as a political prop while attacking Christian values by tearing apart immigrant families, targeting the most vulnerable among us, and recklessly attempting to rip away our health care. Come November, Nevadans will hold Trump accountable for his failure of moral leadership at the ballot box.”
