Nevadans Won’t Let Trump Get Away with Attacking Our Immigrant Communities

Trump is at it again with his unconstitutional, anti-immigrant stunts. Last week, he threatened to exclude undocumented immigrants from being counted during the redrawing of U.S. congressional districts. This week, he announced that his administration will reject new DACA applicants, despite the Supreme Court ruling last month that his efforts to dismantle the program were unconstitutional.

Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II released the following statement:

“Though Trump’s latest attack on our immigrant communities is contemptible, we shouldn’t be surprised. Donald Trump is slipping in the polls. The coronavirus death toll in the U.S. is now more than 150,000–by far the highest death toll in the world. After months of innaction from Trump, the list of states with “hot zones,” including Nevada, grows rapidly. Meanwhile, the economy craters as Republicans in Congress try to cut unemployment benefits for struggling families.

“Donald Trump has nothing positive to run on. His failed policies have endangered Americans; and voters know it. This unconstitutional attack on Dreamers is a desperate ploy to fan the flames of a culture war that divides us. Nevadans have had enough of Trump’s divisiveness and will not allow him to scapegoat members of our community. That is why we will vote Trump out of office and elect the candidate who will make DACA permanent: Joe Biden.”
