NV Dems Slam Donald Trump’s Rally in Arizona Billed to Nevadans

Following Donald Trump’s rally billed to Nevadans at the Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport in Arizona today, Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II released the following statement:

“Today, all we heard from Donald Trump was more empty rhetoric and outright lies, but that’s no surprise from a man who holds an event in Arizona and bills it as a Nevada rally. While Trump tried to distract from his failures today, coronavirus cases are continuing to surge in Nevada, thousands of small businesses have closed for good, and working families are struggling to stay afloat. But all Trump has done is claim that ‘we’re learning to live with it,’ give up on controlling the pandemic entirely, and attack Nevadans’ health care coverage. That abysmal record explains why Trump takes every opportunity to undermine Nevada’s election integrity. He is trying to sow distrust for Nevada’s voting system because he knows he cannot win on merit. Nevadans aren’t buying Trump’s reckless rhetoric. We are fed up with Trump’s record of failure and will hold him accountable at the ballot box.”

BACKGROUND ON DONALD TRUMP’S FAILED RECORD IN NEVADA

Even before the pandemic took hold, Trump was actively fighting against the interest of working Nevadans.

  • Trump’s tax scam offered a windfall to the wealthy and well-connected at the expense of working families. Fifty-seven percent of Nevada’s share of Tax Cut and Job Act’s benefits went to the state’s richest 5% in 2020, not working families.

Now, Trump’s ineffective and neglectful handling of the pandemic has devastated Nevada families.

  • There have been nearly 100,000 reported cases of coronavirus in Nevada and over 1,700 deaths
  • More than 190,000 Nevadans are out of work
  • Communities of color in Nevada have been disproportionately impacted by this crisis. Instead of acknowledging the reality of systemic racism and racial injustice, Trump is inciting racial animus for political gain while his failed coronavirus response exacerbates existing racial disparities.

As coronavirus cases begin to surge in Nevada and across the country once again, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows admitted that the Trump administration is giving up on controlling the coronavirus outbreak.

  • During Trump’s last debate, he claimed Americans are “learning to live” with the pandemic. Nevadans should not have to live like this.

As of this week, Donald Trump is one step closer to ripping health care away from millions of Americans.

  • Following the confirmation of Donald Trump’s Supreme Court appointee this week, this administration is one step closer to realizing its obsessive goal of overturning the Affordable Care Act, ripping health care away from millions of Americans and 309,000 Nevadans in the process.

This week, the Trump campaign and the Nevada GOP have filed multiple lawsuits in an attempt to sow distrust in Nevada’s voting processes days out from the election. While Nevada Democrats work to expand voting access and educate eligible voters, the Nevada GOP invests their energy in attempts to shake voter confidence.
