Ahead of Donald Trump’s scheduled telerally in Nevada today, Nevada Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II released the following statement:
“After spending four days congratulating himself on a job well done at last week’s Republican convention, Donald Trump is at it again with a telerally in Nevada today, where he will spew more lies and empty rhetoric right as the United States reaches six million COVID-19 cases. Nevada families need a president with a strategy to contain the virus and to give relief to working families — not more broken promises from so-called leaders phoning it in. Nothing Trump says tonight will change the fact that his failed pandemic response has cost Nevadans their lives and their livelihoods. Nevadans saw right through Trump’s empty rhetoric four years ago, and they’ll reject his record of broken promises again this November when they send Joe Biden to the White House.”
BACKGROUND ON TRUMP’S BROKEN PROMISES TO NEVADA
Promise: “We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. We have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.” [CNBC Interview, Jan. 22, 2020]
Reality: After Trump wasted time ignoring his own advisors and downplaying the coronavirus pandemic, the United States reported more than 6 million COVID-19 cases today — more than any other country in the world.
Promise: “We’re going to have health care that is so good and so much less expensive … I’m asking for your vote, so we can save health care for every family in your state and in this country.” [Trump Campaign Rally, Las Vegas NV, 10/30/16]
Reality: Even in the midst of a global pandemic, Trump and Republicans are attempting to overturn the Affordable Care Act — endangering health coverage for 309,000 Nevadans, and jeopardizing critical protections for as many as 1.5 million Nevadans with preexisting conditions.
