Open Letter: Nevada Veterans Condemn Trump’s Attacks on Those Who Sacrificed for Our Nation

“Trump’s reported comments disparaging our nation’s veterans, including those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect this country, are despicable. His words go beyond the usual partisan attacks to which we are accustomed; they are un-American.

As president, Trump failed veterans.

He took credit for the Veterans Choice Program, which was signed into law by former President Barack Obama and spearheaded by the late Senator John McCain.

He botched an overhaul of veterans’ health care expansion.

He implemented an inadequate veteran suicide prevention plan, roundly criticized by experts and veterans groups.

He threatened to block military funding and pay raises for service members all so he could protect the legacy of Confederate generals.

Trump abandoned veterans through his policies. Now, he has made his disdain for veterans explicit. Trump called those who sacrificed for our country “losers” and “suckers.”

This country deserves a Commander-in-Chief who not only respects but celebrates the brave men and women who sacrifice for this country.”
