NV Dems Chair: “Adam Laxalt would rather force Nevada students to be stuffed in overcrowded trailers than ask large corporations to pay their fair share”
The Nevada Independent reports today that Adam Laxalt’s platform in his upcoming campaign for Governor calls for the repeal of a tax on large corporations that provides desperately needed funding for Nevada schools. The increase in education funding was championed by Republican Governor Brian Sandoval and passed by bipartisan majorities in the 2015 legislative session – including the Senate and Assembly GOP leaders.
Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II released the following statement: “It’s no surprise that the centerpiece of Adam Laxalt’s imminent campaign for Governor is a destructive plan to defund our public schools. The most partisan and ideologically extreme Attorney General in Nevada history wants to roll back a bipartisan increase in education funding that is putting more teachers in the classroom, expanding special education and college-readiness programs, and investing in early childhood education. Adam Laxalt would rather force Nevada students to be stuffed in overcrowded trailers than ask large corporations to pay their fair share, and every Nevada Republican has a responsibility to publicly reject this fringe plan to drag our state backwards.”
Every Democrat in the Nevada legislature supported Governor Sandoval’s increase in education funding, along with many conservative Republicans. While legislators were busy putting aside party labels and working together for the benefit of Nevadans, Adam Laxalt was an early opponent of Governor Sandoval’s education plan.
