The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to uphold President Trump’s travel ban against a number of majority-Muslim countries is a reminder that Sen. Dean Heller used to oppose but now supports the Administration’s anti-Muslim travel ban policy. It’s just another example of Heller falling in line behind Trump and backing his agenda.
December 2015: Heller sharply criticized Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims entering the country, saying Trump “habitually crossed the line with his divisive statements, and these latest antics should not be tolerated.”
January 2017: Heller objected to Trump’s travel ban - saying he was “deeply troubled by the appearance of a religious ban.”
November 2017: Under pressure from a GOP primary challenger, Heller flipped on talk radio and implicitly endorsed President Trump’s contentious travel ban targeting several predominantly Muslim countries.
TODAY: Heller’s office said the Supreme Court got it right in upholding President Trump’s anti-Muslim travel ban.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Sarah Abel released the following statement:
“Sen. Dean Heller’s shifting positions on President Trump’s anti-Muslim travel ban is more proof that he’s just a spineless Washington politician who changes his tune whenever he thinks it’s politically convenient. Instead of standing by his convictions and standing up against this xenophobic travel ban, Heller flip-flopped to align himself with the White House.”
