NV Dems, AAPIDC, Clark Dems Host AAPI Phonebank in Celebration of Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month

by Nevada Democrats

Last night, the Nevada State Democratic Party in partnership with the Asian American Pacific Islander Democratic Caucus and the Clark County Democrats hosted an AAPI phonebank in celebration of Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month in which volunteers gathered virtually to hit the phones to reach Nevada’s AAPI voters.

Nevada is home to one of the fastest-growing AAPI communities in the country and we know Asian voters will make up the difference in the upcoming primary and general elections. That’s why NV Dems, AAPIDC, and Clark Dems are continuing to engage with AAPI voters as well as recruiting volunteers within the community.

“Far too often, the Trump Administration has left Nevada’s minority communities behind and his response to this pandemic is no different,” said Nevada State Democratic Party Field Director Freddy Wong. “The virus has disproportionately impacted the AAPI community and Trump’s rhetoric has only intensified xenophobic attacks on Asian Americans. That’s why NV Dems is working to build a broad coalition of volunteers and supporters to defeat Trump in November and put an end to his harmful policies.”

“AAPIs make up the fastest growing demographic here in Nevada and at about 10% of the population, we could be the margin of victory in November, up and down the ballot,” said Chair of the Asian American Pacific Islander Democratic Caucus Dan Santos. “In coordination with CCDP and NV Dems, we hope to continue to do our part to engage our community in culturally competent programs and outreach efforts digitally. You see a lot of young faces on our leadership team, but we also hope to build inter-generational coalitions. As AAPIs, we need to have tough conversations with our families about politics, about why this election year is so important. We cannot let our community be used as the scapegoat. We must use everything that has happened last year as a call to action.”
