Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration and Republican-led states filing briefs at the U.S. Supreme Court to invalidate the Affordable Care Act (ACA):
“It’s the same old tired playbook with Trump and Republicans--despite Americans favoring the ACA and repeated failed attempts to repeal the law, they will stop at nothing to ensure hundreds of thousands of Nevadans lose their care. The kicker: Even after years of working to reverse the ACA, the GOP still doesn’t have a replacement plan. Now, as our country is suffering the consequences of an ill-prepared and chaotic response to a global pandemic from this administration, invalidating the ACA would have an even more devastating impact on Nevada families. At NV Dems, we’re working day and night to elect Joe Biden and Democrats up and down the ticket to expand access to affordable care, not rip care away from Americans when we need it most.”
In Nevada, due to the current circumstances of this global pandemic, an additional 20,000 people could lose their coverage if the ACA were invalidated by the courts and the Trump Administration had their way. This could leave more than 300,000 Nevadans and 23 million Americans without care.
