Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II released the following statement on the tenth anniversary of the Affordable Care Act being signed into law:
“Ten years ago, President Obama delivered one of the most groundbreaking legislative accomplishments of our generation, opening the door to affordable health care for millions of Americans.
“Since he took office, Donald Trump has stopped at nothing to reverse that progress, breaking his promise to hundreds of thousands of Nevadans who would lose their health coverage and more than a million who would lose protections for pre-existing conditions.
“Nevadans see right through Trump and we’re mobilizing like never before to defeat his attacks on our health care, end his legacy of broken promises, and elect a genuine advocate for hardworking families in November.”
BACKGROUND ON TRUMP’S BROKEN PROMISES ON HEALTH CARE
Promise: "We're going to have health care that is so good and so much less expensive … I'm asking for your vote, so we can save health care for every family in your state and in this country." [Trump Campaign Rally, Las Vegas NV, 10/30/16]
Reality: If Trump successfully overturns the Affordable Care Act, 282,000 Nevadans could lose their health insurance—alongside millions of Americans across the country.
Promise: “We will protect Medicare, and we will protect your Social Security.” [Trump Campaign Rally, Elko NV, 10/20/18]
Reality: Trump’s budgets have proposed cutting billions of dollars from Social Security programs, and hundreds of billions from Medicare and Medicaid. Nevada expanded Medicaid under the ACA and more than 339,000 Nevadans rely on their hard-earned Medicare benefits, and one out of every three Nevada children are covered through Medicaid.
