Today, in a virtual meeting of the Interim Finance Committee, Assembly Minority Leader Robin Titus opposed accepting millions in federal grant money available from the CARES Act aimed at helping parents subsidize child care payments and child care centers stay open for business, as well as funds designated for public safety agencies' expenditures including overtime, personal protective equipment, and health care for incarcerated people.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Molly Forgey released the following statement:
“Even during a global pandemic that is disproportionately affecting our state, Republicans refuse to put Nevada’s hardworking families first. Despite recognizing the state’s need for additional funds and voting in favor of declaring a fiscal emergency, Assemblywoman Robin Titus refused to approve millions of dollars in federal aid that would help parents and struggling child care centers during a time of economic uncertainty as well as public safety agencies pay for critical equipment. This is just one of many reasons Nevada voters relegated Republicans to the super-minority.”
