ICYMI – The Hill: Heller next in GOP civil war
Just days after a new poll came out showing unpopular incumbent Senator Dean Heller trailing his pro-Trump conservative businessman challenger Danny Tarkanian, Heller’s campaign is already dumping money into television ads to help him avoid losing the Republican primary.
“Republicans are bracing for a nasty primary season in Nevada, and these boring and awkward TV ads are just the latest sign that Dean Heller is hitting the panic button,” said Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Stewart Boss. “Dean Heller has been a spineless and ineffective Senator, and he now faces an uphill climb with voters in the primary and in the general election. Senator Heller’s desperate new ad confirms what Democrats have been saying for months: Nevada’s Republican nominee for Senate will enter the general election drained of resources and struggling to appeal to swing voters.”
Republicans In Nevada “Are Bracing For A Nasty Primary Season” After A New Poll Came Out From JMC Analytics Showing Tarkanian Beating Heller 44-38. “Las Vegas businessman Danny Tarkanian leads Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) in the first poll of the Republican primary contest in Nevada. The survey from JMC Analytics finds Tarkanian at 44 percent and Heller at 38 percent. Seventeen percent say they are undecided. Tarkanian, who has never won elected office despite five previous bids, is viewed favorably by 59 percent of Nevadans and unfavorably by 24 percent. Heller, the first-term incumbent, is at 51 percent favorable and 43 unfavorable. Republicans are bracing for a nasty primary season that is breaking along establishment and grass-roots lines. The 2018 contests will pit Breitbart News chairman Stephen Bannon, the former White House chief strategist, against Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and the incumbents he is trying to protect.” [The Hill, 10/27/17]
