Last night, Donald Trump Jr. headlined a fundraiser for Danny Tarkanian, and expressed gratitude for Danny’s steadfast refusal to criticize President Trump under any circumstances. Danny described his reaction when other Nevada Republicans criticized Trump’s comments during an Access Hollywood taping: “I said there’s absolutely no way I’m going to [criticize Trump].” Trump Jr. told the gathered donors that giving to Tarkanian is in their best interest, and entreated the attendees to donate to the Tarkanian campaign rather than give to charity: “Everyone in this room, we can all be very charitable and we can all help each other but not until we help ourselves first.” The Tarkanian campaign claims to have raised $100,000 from the wealthy Republican donors who attended the event.
Kimberly Guilfoyle, the Vice Chair of Trump’s America First Super PAC, also spoke at the event. America First Super PAC is spending $1.5 million to assist Tarkanian’s campaign and attack Democratic candidate Susie Lee. Tarkanian alluded to the millions in spending from Washington Super PACs on his behalf: “we need support from the top Republican people.” Super PACs are prohibited from coordinating directly with campaigns under federal campaign finance law.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Michael Soneff released the following statement:
“Nevadans want a representative who will stand up for them in Washington, not a rubber stamp for the wealthy Washington elite. Last night, we saw more evidence of who Danny is: a failed politician, plagued by his own scandals, who owes everything to a handful of millionaires and billionaires. On November 6, voters are going to reject Danny Tarkanian for the sixth straight time.”
