In response to Joe Lombardo’s embrace of deeply unpopular data centers, NV Dems is launching a new series to highlight every way he’s sold out Nevadans to keep his billionaire donors and Donald Trump happy. On day three, we’re highlighting Lombardo’s bizarre interview at the construction site of a future data center all while ignoring Nevadans’ concerns about rising costs.
Lombardo admitted that data centers need a massive amount of power to operate. In fact, the Reno-area data centers he visited will need to generate more than 360 megawatts of electricity using methane — enough to power 396,000 homes. The facilities will ultimately burn about three times as much methane gas as is needed for the entire Northern Nevada residential and commercial customer base in 2025.
Statewide, data centers are putting immense strain on Nevada’s electrical grid, forcing the need to generate 47 percent more energy than was projected just two years ago, likely jacking up families’ electricity costs.
While families are forced to live without air conditioning because their power bills are already unaffordable, Lombardo also falsely touted “economic development.” In reality, Lombardo has handed data centers $240 million in tax breaks to drain our water and hike our electric bills with little oversight and accountability.
