5 Days, 5 Ways Lombardo is Out of Touch with Nevadans: School Lunch Veto Edition

It’s day three of 5 Days, 5 Ways Joe Lombardo is Out of Touch with Nevadans and today we’re highlighting Joe Lombardo flat-out lying about vetoing legislation providing free breakfast and lunch for public school students.

Lombardo chose to leave our children behind when he vetoed AB139 which guaranteed free breakfast and lunch in public schools leaving Nevada students hungry – then he lied about it. Access to free school meals can make a sizable impact on students’ educational attainment, specifically improving student health and attendance, reducing disciplinary infractions, and increasing test scores among marginalized groups of students.

“Joe Lombardo might call himself the ‘education governor’, but he isn’t fooling anyone,” said Nevada State Democratic Party Spokesperson, Tai Sims. “With the stroke of a pen he had the opportunity to provide guaranteed access to nutritious meals for Nevada children, delivering better learning and health outcomes for them, but instead he chose partisan politics over our students, then lied about it.”
