Today, NV Dems held a press conference with Chair Daniele Monroe-Moreno, local moms, and a pediatric nurse to call out Joe Lombardo and Donald Trump’s steep health care cuts that are shuttering NICUs, laying off health care workers, and leaving Nevada families behind. On Lombardo’s watch, Nevada routinely ranks as one of the worst states for maternal health outcomes
This month, Henderson Hospital announced it was cutting NICU and maternal health units, forcing mothers and families to travel an additional 30 minutes to access critical health care thanks to the Medicaid cuts passed in Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill that Lombardo embraced. Henderson Hospital’s service cuts follow those made at Boulder City Hospital, and even more hospitals are at risk.

“A NICU and maternal health unit is shutting down in Henderson, which also drastically impacts all of Boulder City’s access to this vital care. Life saving care. This is thanks to this disastrous budget bill. A budget bill that Lombardo told Nevadans to be ‘excited’ about,” said local mom Haley Nartker. “And that’s on top of the rising costs of groceries, gas, diapers, strollers, car seats — you name it, it’s gotten more expensive on Trump and Lombardo’s watch.”
“I was born at Boulder City Hospital close to home. Now, that is not an option for even more of our community. Trump’s budget bill just shut down two hospitals and gutted 11 billion in total funding for health care in Nevada,” said pediatric nurse and mom Jody Domineck. “My own children were in neonatal ICUs here in Las Vegas … Now, even more Nevadans have to travel further for care, and we know that’s only getting worse in rural Nevada. But all Joe Lombardo does is take orders from Donald Trump and leaves nurses like me and our patients and our children in the nest.”
“Families are forced to travel an additional 30 minutes to access critical health care. That’s 30 minutes more of your sick child not getting the urgent care they need. That’s 30 minutes more of paying for gas. And we all know we already pay way too much thanks to Trump’s endless war with Iran. That’s 30 minutes more of finding child care for the kids at home. And for some 30 minutes can make all the difference about where you end up having your baby,” said NV Dems Chair Daniele Monroe-Moreno. “We need a fighter in the governor’s office who actually looks out for Nevada moms. Not a doormat who takes orders from Donald Trump. Come November, we need to replace Joe Lombardo and elect Aaron Ford as our next governor.”
