As health care costs continue to rise, Joe Lombardo vetoed a bill that would have lowered the price of prescription drugs to the Medicare-negotiated rate for all Nevadans, not just those on Medicare. A report found that after Lombardo vetoed a similar bill last session, he received nearly $100,000 in campaign cash from big drug companies. Prior to Lombardo’s first his veto, which cited “many arguments made by the [pharmaceutical] industry,” Lombardo had only received $11,000 from pharma interests. All as Nevada has seen the largest increase in prescription drug prices of any state over the last three decades. When given the opportunity to choose Nevadans over special interest donors, Lombardo put political self-interest over helping Nevadans.

“The truth is that with a stroke of a pen Joe Lombardo could have lowered the price of prescription drugs for all Nevadans, but instead he vetoed groundbreaking legislation and sold out Nevada families all for his own selfish political gain. While health care costs continue to rise and Nevadans struggle to pay for lifesaving prescription drugs, Lombardo deposited campaign checks from his true beneficiaries: big drug companies.”
