Nevada State Democratic Party Chair Daniele Monroe-Moreno released the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s visit to Nevada
“Today, Donald Trump came to town trying to sell more of his broken promises to working families who are paying more as a result of his billionaires-first agenda all while Joe Lombardo kissed the ring. Lombardo has spent the past year cheering on these policies, even going so far as to say Nevadans should ‘feel a little pain’ from Trump’s illegal tariffs and refuses to give households their money back. And this ‘pain’ is only getting worse — Nevadans are forced to pay $5 per gallon on gas because of Trump’s reckless war on top of sky-high grocery, health care, and utility bills. Nevadans aren’t buying Trump’s broken promises and that’s why we’ll vote out his cheerleader-in-chief Joe Lombardo next November.”
While Lombardo and Trump spew more lies and broken promises, here are the FACTS on their cost-raising agenda:
- Lombardo refuses to defend our state against Trump’s damaging, cost-raising trade policies and even said Nevadans should “feel a little pain” from tariffs.
- Just last month, Lombardo said Trump’s doing a “fantastic job” as his war with Iran skyrockets gas prices to over $5 in Reno and Las Vegas. Inflation soared to 3.3% in March – a nearly 30% increase from February – driven by Trump’s reckless war in Iran that Lombardo endorses.
- While tourism plummets and the job market tanks, Lombardo said he saw “definite benefits” from Trump’s illegal tariffs, falsely claiming that the US has increased manufacturing jobs. In reality, U.S. manufacturing employment was down 98,000 jobs in Trump’s first full 12 months back in office.
- Nevada’s economy has one of the worst unemployment rates in the nation and GOP policies only threaten to keep that number growing as tourism and travel to the state continue to decline.
- Lombardo said Nevadans should be “excited” about the GOP budget betrayal despite our state being one of the hardest hit by the bill’s funding and health care cuts.
- Lombardo is silent about the Trump administration killing infrastructure projects, jeopardizing tens of thousands of good-paying jobs and forcing higher utility costs.
- Nevada is one of the “worst states” to live in under Lombardo and Trump — with some of the lowest homeownership, highest housing costs, and worst safety ratings in the nation. As Nevadans struggle to afford homes, Lombardo vetoed affordable housing legislation that would have helped stop Wall Street firms from pricing working Nevadans out of home ownership and prevented landlords from abusing tenants.
