After the Democratic National Committee’s new Rules and Bylaws Committee voted to adopt the new criteria to determine the order of our party’s nominating calendar, the Nevada State Democratic Party released the following statement about why Nevada is in a unique position to be first. Earlier this year, the Nevada State Democratic Party released a memo underscoring why Nevada should be First in the Nation if Democrats want to take back the White House in 2028.
As the most diverse battleground state with a population of three million and accessible voting laws, Nevada is best positioned to meet all metrics outlined by the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee.
Statement from the Nevada State Democratic Party Executive Director Hilary Barrett following the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee vote:
“As a small, diverse, working-class battleground with accessible voting laws, Nevada remains the only state that meets all of the DNC’s new early state criteria set forth with unmatchable rigorousness, efficiency, and fairness. We are a union-strong, majority-minority, and highly competitive battleground state that will uniquely prepare our party’s nominee to win in the general election. If Democrats are serious about winning back the White House by appealing to voters we need in November, Nevada should be First in the Nation.”
