Brown has the endorsement of an anti-Social Security group and praised Rick Scott’s extreme proposal to sunset Medicare and Social Security
On the 84th anniversary of the first Social Security check being issued, here’s your reminder that Mitch McConnell’s handpicked candidate Sam Brown supported a plan to gut the vital program that provides assistance to more than half a million Nevada seniors.
In 2022, when Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott proposed a widely criticized plan that would automatically sunset Social Security and Medicare every five years, Brown praised the idea and said he admired Scott for putting forward a plan that would lead to a “better America.” Brown’s remarks were caught on tape just two days after the plan was released.
Brown has also welcomed the endorsement of Americans for Prosperity Action, the super PAC arm of the Koch network that has called for major changes to Social Security, including raising the retirement age and cutting benefits. The anti-Social Security group has already spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on Brown’s behalf this cycle.
Nevada State Democratic Party Spokesperson Katharine Kurz:
“MAGA extremist Sam Brown has proven time and again that he doesn’t care about hardworking Nevadans, and his willingness to gut hard-earned Social Security benefits for our seniors to appease his far-right allies in Washington is no exception. It’s an extreme and deeply unpopular agenda that Nevada voters will reject again in 2024.”
