Today NV Dems Chair Daniele Monroe-Moreno, Assemblywoman Venicia Considine, and local Nevada seniors held a press conference at the Regional Justice Center, where tens of thousands of Nevadans have faced eviction thanks to Joe Lombardo’s obstruction and lack of action, to hold Lombardo accountable for his role in the ongoing housing crisis.
After doubling down on his vetoes of Democrat-led legislation that would have protected renters from exploitation and prevented skyrocketing rent for seniors and Nevadans with disabilities, Lying Lombardo is trying to shift the blame for the housing crisis. Meanwhile, President Biden is focused on meaningful policies to support everyday Nevadans, including providing $1 billion to Nevada to boost affordable housing, lower housing costs, and keep homeowners and renters in their homes.
“For too damn long, housing costs have been too damn high in Nevada,” said Nevada State Democratic Party Chair Daniele Monroe-Moreno. “That’s why last legislative session, Democrats took action and passed legislation that would have lowered housing costs for Nevada residents. Instead of putting Nevada families first, Lombardo is doing the bidding of a slumlord billionaire who bankrolled his candidacy to the tune of $30 million.”
“Last session, it was legislative Democrats’ top priority to pass legislation that put people over profits, but unfortunately due to Governor Joe Lombardo’s veto pen, seniors and Nevadans with disabilities are seeing unaffordable rent increases,” said Assemblywoman Venicia Considine. “Not only did Governor Lombardo veto legislation that would have kept more money in the pockets of Nevadans, but he doubled down on his vetoes of our Democrat-led legislation that would have protected our most vulnerable from exploitation and prevented skyrocketing rent.”
“What Joe Lombardo is doing to seniors across our state is wrong,” said Nevada senior Audrey Dempsey. “It is tough for all of us. We have to do better, we owe seniors like all of us here today, better.”
