Ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit to Las Vegas tomorrow to meet with Nevada union workers who keep the Silver State moving, here’s a reminder that Donald Trump did anything he could to slash collective bargaining rights and weaken the power of union workers. In contrast, President Biden and Vice President Harris have been champions for Nevada workers since taking office as part of the most pro-labor administration in history.
Here’s a look at Trump’s record attacking labor and undermining Nevada workers’ rights:
- Trump stacked his National Labor Relations Board with anti-union advocates who completely suspended union elections for a period during the pandemic. He also appointed a labor secretary and acting labor secretary with long records of fighting organized labor.
- He repeatedly criticized unions and called on workers to stop joining them.
- The Trump administration attacked federal workers’ right to union representation and overturned nearly half a century of precedent by enacting a rule prohibiting them from using official time to represent their coworkers in equal employment opportunity matters.
- The Trump administration threatened to veto the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, which would strengthen the rights of workers to organize and collectively bargain.
The Biden-Harris administration continues to stand up for workers’ rights:
- The Biden-Harris administration’s Labor Department undid the anti-worker rules created by the Trump administration that weakened federal protections for workers.
- President Biden’s National Labor Relations Board appointees brought back a policy to allow workers to unionize without formal elections.
- Both President Biden and Vice President Harris have unequivocally called for the implementation of the PRO Act.
- The Biden-Harris administration is helping to create tens of thousands of good-paying, union jobs right here in Nevada.
