Following a key win in Wisconsin’s Supreme Court race that saw a double-digit swing toward Democrats and a rejection of Elon Musk, who made himself a central figure in that race, it’s worth revisiting how Musk’s DOGE has impacted Nevada.
After Musk’s DOGE fired National Park Service employees across the state, including some responsible for keeping our water safe, a federal judge reinstated them with back pay. Due to the Trump Administration’s reckless and illegal mass firings, Nevada taxpayers are having to foot the bill by paying federal workers for time they didn’t work. Meanwhile, Republicans in Nevada have been complicit in the Trump-Musk DOGE disaster; Joe Lombardo’s office even tweeted, “we need DOGE reforms in Nevada!” as Nevadans were losing their jobs.
Here’s a list of how Musk’s DOGE is costing Nevadans:
- Elon Musk fired veterans and made cuts to the VA. Veterans account for about 34% of the nearly 14,000 civilian federal employees in the state.
- Musk announced plans to eliminate a Las Vegas Social Security office that services thousands of Nevadans.
- Musk’s DOGE fired Nevada’s federal workers whose jobs were to maintain and secure federal properties.
- Musk’s DOGE cut an Indian Health Service center and Bureau of Indian Affairs location in Elko that provides primary care to over 11,000 patients from four Native colonies and three reservations.
- Elon Musk fired Forest Service workers who work to prevent and manage forest fires, increasing the risk of deadly wildfires.
Elon Musk cut National Park Serviceemployeesacross the state, includingmore than a dozenat Nevada’s Lake Mead National Recreation – some of whom were responsible for testing for toxicity levels in the water.
