Today, Joe Lombardo vetoed AB298, bipartisan legislation combating soaring rent prices by setting rent caps for seniors and Nevadans with disabilities. This veto only brings more attention to Lombardo’s biggest donor, billionaire slumlord Robert Bigelow. As a reminder, Bigelow evicted low income families during a global pandemic and bought Lombardo the governor’s mansion for a casual $30 million price tag.
This follows a recent report detailing Lombardo breaking bipartisan precedent and registering his inaugural committee as a dark money group in order to avoid disclosing his donors, meaning Bigelow’s donations could have far surpassed $30 million by now.
“This move might be the most transparent thing Joe Lombardo has ever done,” said Nevada State Democratic Party Spokesperson Mallory Payne. “After a billionaire real estate mogul bought him the governor’s mansion last year, Lombardo is returning the favor at the expense of seniors and Nevadans with disabilities. Nevada families working hard to make ends meet won’t forget whose side Lombardo’s on.”
