DEBATE NIGHT: What to Know Before Tonight’s Nevada Senate GOP Primary Debate

Every GOP candidate will take the debate stage except for hypocrite Sam Brown – who pushed for multiple primary debates during his last failed Senate bid

Tonight, every major candidate vying for the Nevada GOP Senate nomination except hypocrite Sam Brown will take the stage in Reno ahead of the June 11 primary. It’s sure to be an eventful evening proving how this MAGA-fueled contest has become a mad dash to the far-right.

Nevada State Democratic Party Spokesperson Katharine Kurz
“No matter what happens on the debate stage tonight, every candidate in this messy and crowded Senate primary is a MAGA extremist and wildly out of touch with hardworking Nevadans.”

Here’s what to know before the GOP Senate candidates gather this evening:

1. Sam Brown is refusing to show up tonight despite repeatedly pushing for debates during his failed 2022 Senate bid.

  • Sam Brown publicly challenged Adam Laxalt to multiple primary debates last cycle, even going as far as to call Laxalt a “typical career politician cowardly hiding from voters.
  • Brown’s opponents have alreadystarted attacking Mitch McConnell’s handpicked candidate for failing to show up, and the jabs are likely to continue on stage tonight.
  • Jeff Gunter called out Brown’s refusal to answer questions, saying: “we joke within the campaign that Sam Brown’s favorite sport right now is dodgeball.”

2. The MAGA GOP field is fully embracing Trump’s toxic agenda.

  • With Sam Brown caving to pressure from his primary opponents and finally endorsing Donald Trump for president, every candidate on the debate stage will be working overtime to prove their allegiance to Trump and his toxic brand of MAGA politics.
  • Whether they admit it or not on the debate stage, each of these candidates is fully behind Trump’s MAGA agenda that includes taking away reproductive freedom, repealing protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and slashing taxes for the ultra-wealthy and giant corporations  — all policies that have been rejected over and over again by Nevada voters.
  • Brown chose to endorse Trump almost immediately after he bragged about being responsible for overturning Roe v. Wade, claimed that “nobody has been treated ever in history so badly” as the January 6 insurrectionists, and said that he hoped the U.S. economy would crash in 2024. Don’t expect to hear any condemnation of these Trump comments from any of the Republicans running for Senate.

 3. In pro-choice Nevada, the GOP candidates are continuing to try and hide from their extreme anti-choice records.

    • The future of abortion rights is on the ballot in Nevada this November – and you can expect the anti-choice field of candidates to try to hide from their extreme records on abortion.
    • Even Brown’s fellow Republicans have attacked him over his radical views on abortion, with Jeff Gunter noting that Brown’s support for banning abortion without exceptions for rape or incest will “only lead to Democratic wins.
    • Brown has a decade-long record of supporting extreme anti-choice policies, including stating in a questionnaire that he believes abortion should be banned even in cases of rape or incest.
