NVGOP Congressional candidates have dangerous ties to Donald Trump’s extremist Project 2025 agenda, which aims to strip away fundamental rights, raise costs for hardworking families, and make our communities less safe.
Trump’s Project 2025 would enact a nationwide abortion ban, force states to report on women’s miscarriages and pregnancies, eliminate Social Security and Medicare, repeal the Affordable Care Act, and eliminate the Department of Education, among other dangerous policy priorities.
Despite the devastation this agenda would have on working families in Nevada, Republican Congressional candidates have fully aligned themselves with Trump’s vision for Project 2025, demonstrating sole concern for their ultra wealthy donors, corporations, and special interests, not the people of Nevada.
NV-01 candidate Mark Robertson has consistently backed policies that align with Project 2025’s plan to ban abortion nationwide:
- Robertson is an anti-abortion extremist who supported overturning Roe v. Wade, paving the way for Republicans to pass a nationwide ban on abortion that would supersede protections Nevada has in state law.
- He also applauded Texas’ drastic six-week abortion ban with no exceptions for rape and incest, and called for other states to “follow suit.”
- If Robertson has it his way, people could collect bounties for reporting doctors or anyone else who helps women get abortions.
- Mark Robertson supported a policy that the AARP came out against, noting that it would “subject [Social Security and Medicare] to potentially deep cuts.”
Drew Johnson worked with the authors of Project 2025 for 25 years and their plan to increase the cost of prescription drugs and put Medicare’s future at risk is a tenet of the GOP candidate for NV-03’s agenda that would devastate Nevada seniors:
- Newly unearthed tweets show NV-03 candidate Drew Johnson boasted on Twitter about his 25 years at The Heritage Foundation, the architects of Trump’s extreme Project 2025 agenda.
- Johnson has called Social Security a “failed policy” that turns beneficiaries into a burden on our economy, believing that anyone who relies on Social Security for their retirement is not a “responsible adult,” rather they are a “socialist suckling off the teat of gov’t.”
- One of Johnson’s key priorities is raising the retirement age, cutting Medicare, and slashing Social Security by 30%, committing to make the program “solvent.”
- Johnson is fundamentally against lowering rising health care costs, saying that “prescription drug prices aren’t the problem Democrats make them out to be,” and calling interventions on prescription drug price gouging “socialist style price caps.”
NV-04 candidate, John Lee, who pledged to follow Trump’s Project 2025 playbook if elected also backed policies that align with Project 2025’s dangerous agenda to ban abortion nationwide:
- John Lee stated he would “follow the Trump [Project 2025] agenda” which would decimate Social Security for Nevada’s seniors.
- Lee, a MAGA extremist, praised the overturning of Roe v. Wade and promised to govern as the most pro-life governor in Nevada history during a failed gubernatorial run.
- Lee announced that he would take drastic steps to eliminate abortion rights in Nevada, promising to support a near-total abortion ban. In 2021, Lee wrote an op-ed in the Gazette-Journal calling to “end the atrocity of abortion,” and saying that Dobbs v. Jackson was “a case I pray will overturn Roe v. Wade and deliver a historic victory for our nation, the unborn and the global pro-life movement.” Lee also promised to “shut down” Planned Parenthood in Nevada, despite the governor not having any power to.
