ICYMI: Sam Brown Attacks Federal Funding for High-Speed Rail While Nevada GOP Leaders Praise Bipartisan Infrastructure Project

Just last week, it was announced that Senator Jacky Rosen secured $3 billion in federal funding for a long-awaited high-speed rail project between Southern California and Las Vegas that’s expected to create thousands of good-paying union jobs in Nevada.

Federal investment for this project has received widespread support from Nevada leaders in both parties, including Republican Governor Joe Lombardo and Republican Congressman Mark Amodei. The exception is fringe MAGA extremist and Nevada-newcomer Sam Brown, who was vocal in his opposition to federal grant funding for this historic and job-creating infrastructure project.

Brown has also previously said he would have opposed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which 19 Senate Republicans voted for to make this funding possible.

  • Proponents say the project is “shovel ready” and will create 35,000 construction jobs and 1,000 permanent jobs. It is projected to take an estimated 3 million cars off the road.
  • But opponentssay the $3 billion grant could have been better used for other matters and serves as nothing more than a handoutto Edens, who has a net worth of roughly $4.6 billion, according to Forbes.
  • Sam Brown, who is running as a Republican to unseat Rosen in next year’selection, said in a statement the money could have been better used to secure the southern border, expand school choice programs or enhance public safety, among other things.

Nevada Current: It’s ‘infrastructure decade,’ Biden says while touting high-speed rail funding in NV

  • Not everyone in Nevada welcomed the federal funding for a high-speed train to California – completion of which still hinges on Brightline attracting billions in private investment.
  • “This $3 billion should have gone to: securing the borders; delivering school choice for parents; enhancing public safety; or supporting veterans and military families,” said Sam Brown, who is seeking the Republican nomination to challenge Rosen, in a statement. Brown characterized the federal investment in the project as “a $3 billion handout” to the private equity group that owns Brightline.
