Last week, Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro, Senator Dallas Harris, and Senator Rochelle Nguyen announced new legislation for the 2025 legislative session to protect and expand access to in vitro fertilization (IVF) and other assistive reproductive technologies. While Nevada Democrats are taking serious action to protect reproductive freedom, every single Republican legislator voted against giving voters the ability to enshrine the right to infertility care in Nevada’s Constitution during the last legislative session.
Earlier this year, Joe Lombardo told the Nevada Independent he would not support the ballot initiative to enshrine reproductive freedom into Nevada’s Constitution and every single Republican running in a competitive legislative district refused to answer how they would vote on Question 6. Lombardo also chose to veto AB383, which would have protected Nevadans’ reproductive freedoms by guaranteeing the right to contraception.
“It’s clear: Nevada Republicans are too extreme for our state,” said Nevada State Democratic Party Spokesperson Claudia Alvarado. “No matter how hard anti-choice Republicans work to strip Nevadans of their reproductive rights, Democrats will continue fighting to protect access to contraception, abortion and IVF.”
See how Democrats took serious action to protect reproductive freedom in Nevada:
- SB131 protects health care providers and out-of-state patients against criminalization for seeking reproductive health care in Nevada, a codification of former Governor Sisolak’s executive order on abortion.
- SJR7 gives voters the ability to enshrine the right to reproductive health care in Nevada’s constitution.
- Despite the overwhelming majority of Nevadans – across party lines– supporting SJR7, every single Republican in the legislature voted against it.
Lombardo continued to prioritize special interests over the well-being of Nevadans by vetoing critical protections despite the policies being overwhelmingly popular among Nevadans:
- AB383 would have protected Nevadans’ access to reproductive healthcare and made sure that all Nevadans have access to contraception and that the government cannot take it away.
