Days after Joe Lombardo endorsed John Ellison for State Senate District 19, Ellison made racist remarks referring to his former employees as “colored people” during an endorsement interview with Veterans in Politics.
When asked about an ongoing investigation into racial discrimination against employees at a veterans home in Boulder City and how Ellison – if elected to the Nevada Legislature – would hold the executive branch accountable, Ellison claimed he “doesn’t see color” and before firing them, he had previously employed two “colored people.”
“It should not come as a shock that Joe Lombardo’s hand-picked GOP State Senate candidate would be exposed for using a racial slur to describe two of his former employees, just days after Lombardo endorsed him,” said Nevada State Democratic Party Spokesperson Tai Sims. “Nevada is one of the most diverse states in our country. Racial slurs of any kind have no place in Nevada. Following John Ellison’s reprehensible comments about former employees he apparently fired, Joe Lombardo must either condemn these offensive remarks or explain to Nevadans why he won’t.”
