Marchant kicks off what’s sure to be a damaging, messy GOP primary
Nevada State Democratic Party Spokesperson Johanna Warshaw released the following statement on MAGA election denier Jim Marchant entering the race for U.S. Senate in Nevada, kicking off what’s sure to be a damaging and messy GOP primary:
“MAGA extremist Jim Marchant is a far-right conspiracy theorist who tried to overturn the 2020 election and opposes abortion even in cases of rape and incest. Marchant jumping into the Senate primary makes clear that Republicans are in for a messy race to the right that will be out of touch with the issues that matter to hardworking Nevadans.”
Four things to know about Jim Marchant’s extreme record:
- Marchant pushed Trump’s Big Lie that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” and said he would not have certified the results as Secretary of State. He even claimed that Nevadans’ votes have not “counted for decades” and all elected officials “have been installed by the deep state cabal.”
- Like Trump, Marchant tried to overturn the results of his own election in 2020 when he ran for Congress, attempting to throw out Nevadans’ votes due to unfounded claims of voter fraud.
- Marchant opposes abortion even in cases of rape or incest. He also supports defunding Planned Parenthood, which provides affordable health care, including birth control and cancer screenings, for Nevadans.
- Marchant has said that he opposes a pathway to citizenship and has spread false and dangerous lies about immigrants in the United States.
