Brown’s toxic support for turning Nevada into a dumping ground for the nation’s nuclear waste puts him at odds with scientific, business and political leaders from across the Silver State
Less than one week out from the Nevada Senate primary, here’s your reminder that MAGA extremist Sam Brown said he wanted to restart Yucca Mountain and make Nevada a dumping ground for the nation’s nuclear waste.
Brown called reviving Yucca Mountain as a nuclear waste repository an “incredible opportunity” – putting him at odds with scientific, business, and political leaders from across the Silver State. He’s faced criticism from Nevadans and media outlets for his toxic views, including:
- Former Governor and Senator Richard Bryan published an op-ed about why Brown’s support for restarting Yucca Mountain is wrong for Nevada.
- Rory Reid, former Clark County Commission Chairman and son of the late Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid, spoke at a press conference to criticize Brown’s “ignorant” stance.
- Longtime Nevada columnist John L. Smith has called Brown’s position “politically damaging,” saying Brown doesn’t know what he is talking about and closing with, “You don’t really want to screw Nevada, do you, Sam?”
- The Las Vegas Sun Editorial Board called this position “reckless,” “a waste of resources,” and – in a worst-case scenario – “the basis for an apocalyptic disaster movie.”
Brown is the only Senate candidate in the race who supports restarting the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository, leaving him vulnerable to repeated attacks from all of his primary opponents on social media, the debate stage, attack ads, and in recent media interviews.
