MAGA Government Shutdown Could Put Nutrition Assistance At Risk

As MAGA Republicans in Congress continue lurching toward a government shutdown, 52,976 Nevadans who rely on vital nutrition assistance from the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) could soon start being turned away at grocery store counters — including 11,585 women, 29,239 children, and 12,152 infants.

“Congressional Republicans’ extreme political games are pushing the country closer and closer to a government shutdown that could have devastating impacts for Nevada families,” said Nevada State Democratic Party Executive Director Hilary Barrett. “If House Republicans continue putting their MAGA agenda over our families, nearly 53,000 thousand women, children, and infants in Nevada who depend on WIC for nutrition assistance could be turned away at the grocery store. It’s clear that MAGA Republicans are more concerned about doing Trump’s bidding than looking out for the American people, and it’s families who will be forced to pay the price.”
