Nevada Current: Nevada Homelessness, Housing Crisis Will Only Get Worse Under Trump Budget Plan

“More than 10,100 people experienced homelessness in Nevada in 2024 – a 17% increase statewide”

A recent report by the Nevada Current found that Donald Trump’s plan to cut over 40% of HUD’s budget in order to pay for tax handouts for billionaires in the midst of Joe Lombardo’s housing crisis would be devastating. On Lombardo’s watch, Nevada is facing one of the toughest housing crises in the nation with eviction rates in Las Vegas being among the highest in the country and homelessness hitting its highest peak since the Great Recession.

A recent survey found that under Lombardo, more than 80% of Nevadans believe housing in Nevada is unaffordable. This comes as the median price to buy a home in Reno exceeded $600,000 in April and median home sale prices in Clark County reached $485,000 in January, the highest ever recorded. Last session, while housing costs continued to grow more expensive, Lombardo vetoed multiple bills that would have lowered the cost of housing across the state and kept more Nevadans in their homes.

Now, housing costs are skyrocketing, and Lombardo refuses to stand up to Trump and do what’s right for Nevada.

Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Tai Sims:

“Joe Lombardo has had more than two years to address Nevada’s housing crisis and instead has been Donald Trump’s Cheerleader-in-Chief as he indiscriminately cuts programs that keep a roof over Nevadans’ heads just so they can pay for tax cuts for billionaires. If Lombardo was serious about putting an end to his housing crisis, he’d start by standing up to Trump and against the GOP’s self-proclaimed ‘big, beautiful [budget] bill.”
