The Nevada State Democratic Party AANHPI Caucus Chair Caitlin Gatchalian released the following statement on the start of Filipino American History Month:
“Filipino American History Month is a celebration of the significant role Filipino Americans have played in our nation’s history, especially here in Nevada. The AANHPI community is the fastest growing demographic in both Nevada and the country, and Filipino Americans proudly represent the largest AANHPI group in Nevada. During this Filipino American History Month, I’d like to acknowledge all of the work that Democrats have done to invest in the AANHPI Communities. Thanks to Democratic federal, state, and local leadership, our community has increased equal access to higher education, ballot access, and increased language equality. For our AANHPI Senior population, insulin has now been capped at $35 thanks to the work of the Biden-Harris Administration. Even now, the administration is working to reinstate monthly checks up to $300 that previously cut AANHPI child poverty to a record low.

The AANHPI community is one of the fastest growing constituency bases in Nevada. Nevada’s AANHPI community makes up nearly 35,000 business owners across Nevada including 20,000 in Southern Nevada, AANHPI voter registration has increased by 15%, or about 2 million eligible voters, in the past four years, and Nevada’s AANHPI population has increased by 167% since 2000.
