Donald Trump’s failed tax scam gave the richest one percent—those with an average income of $2.5 million—tax cuts 138 times larger than Nevadans in the bottom 80 percent of incomes, and killed overtime protections for 70,000 Nevadans, resulting in nearly $10 million in lost wages for workers in 2020 alone.
On the contrary, the Biden-Harris administration delivered 285,000 jobs to Nevada, working in partnership with Nevada Democrats to support the middle class. Last legislative session, Democrats delivered economic wins for hardworking Nevada families, passing legislation that established paid family leave for state workers, stronger labor laws to protect Nevada workers’ safety, and empowered workers to advocate for better working conditions and wages. Alongside our Democratic legislators, our federal delegation continues to fight for working families with historic investments in good-paying jobs through:
- The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), investing $3.3 billion in over 200 Nevada manufacturing projects including rebuilding roads and bridges, revitalizing public transit, ports and airports, creating clean water infrastructure, and providing affordable, reliable high-speed internet.
- The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) spurred significant investments – to the tune of $14+ billion – in the future of clean, American-made energy, and included strict incentives for companies to use union labor in the construction of their facilities, pay prevailing wages, and use qualified apprenticeship programs.
Under these historic pieces of worker-first legislation, the Biden-Harris administration and Nevada Democrats have delivered:
- Over 3,000 manufacturing jobs in Nevada through the Brightline West rail project.
- 20,448 good-paying clean energy jobs for Nevadans, while “solidifying Nevada’s standing as a solar and battery manufacturing powerhouse.” Through 17 new clean energy projects, Nevada’s lower-income communities saw $1.53 billion in investment and the creation of 1,050 good-paying clean energy jobs, and Nevada’s rural communities saw project announcements totaling $17 million in investment and 950 jobs.
- An additional 40,000 new jobs projected in the next 10 years in the Silver State as a result of these investments, across clean energy, transportation, building infrastructure, manufacturing, environmental justice, and agriculture
“Working families are the engine of Nevada’s economy,” said Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Nicholas Simões Machado. “In partnership with the Biden-Harris administration, Nevada Democrats created more than 285,000 good-paying jobs in the Silver State while undoing the damage Maganomics caused working families.”
