As Trump’s reckless tariffs are raising costs for working families and businesses, Nevada Democrats are hearing from community members and business owners about the devastating consequences – and fighting back.
Last week, Attorney General Aaron Ford filed a lawsuit to block Trump from illegally implementing reckless and sporadic tariff policies that are disruptive to working families and businesses. Senator Jacky Rosen and Senator Catherine Cortez Masto visited small businesses in Reno to discuss the impact of Trump’s tariffs on business owners and their consumers. Congressman Horsford visited a local grocery store to see firsthand how Trump’s economic policies are raising grocery prices. Earlier this month, Congresswoman Susie Lee met with local entrepreneurs and business owners to discuss how Trump’s tariffs, “have decimated retirement savings, will jack up everyday costs, and hurt small businesses.” Congresswoman Dina Titus wrote an op-ed where she raised concerns about Trump’s tariffs plunging Nevada’s tourism economy.
Donald Trump’s trade war is raising costs on working families and small businesses, while decimating Nevada’s tourism and gaming economies:
- The tariffs that Joe Lombardo and Nevada Republicans support are hurting Nevada’s small businesses and are hitting Nevadans directly in their wallets as prices begin to rise.
- An independent study estimates that the cumulative impact of Trump’s tariffs will result in an average effective pay cut of $3,800 for U.S. households as the tariffs force costs to go up.
- As Nevada faces an ongoing housing crisis, Trump’s tariffs will make it more expensive to build more homes to help lower housing costs.
- Amid Trump’s trade war with Canada, the Nevada Independent found that direct routes between the largest Canadian cities and Las Vegas saw some of the largest declines of any air carrier, international or domestic, when compared with February 2024.
- Gaming revenue has also taken a hit, down almost 14% compared to last year.
