The Nevada State Democratic Party is launching a new series to highlight the many ways in which Sam Brown is too MAGA for Nevada. Today, we’re taking a look at Sam Brown’s extreme MAGA record and how it would hurt Nevadans.
Here’s what you need to know:
Nevada is a strongly pro-choice state, and Sam Brown has a decade-long anti-abortion record that’s extreme and deeply unpopular with Nevadans, including:
- Supporting an extreme abortion ban in Texas without exceptions for rape or incest, which was considered one of the “toughest restrictions in the country.”
- Backing efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade, including stating on his campaign website that opposition to abortion rights would be his litmus test for confirming federal judges if he was elected to the Senate.
- Committing to only vote for anti-abortion Supreme Court justices.
- Serving as the Nevada president of an extreme anti-abortion organization that said Roe was a “moral atrocity.”
- Saying that his extreme anti-abortion views are “non-negotiable.”
- Leaving “the door open to voting for a national abortion ban” during his 2022 failed Senate bid.
- Falsely claiming in a recent op-ed that the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade “strengthened Nevada’s protections for abortion.”
- Managing the campaign of a “100% pro-life, no exceptions” Congressional candidate in Texas.
Sam Brown is pushing a far-right agenda that would raise costs for hardworking Nevada families, including:
- Saying that he admires an extreme GOP plan to phase out Social Security and Medicare in five years – calling it a “roadmap for a better America.”
- Strongly opposing the Affordable Care Act and pushing to repeal it throughout his political career – which would take health insurance away from hundreds of thousands of Nevadans and remove protections for Nevadans with pre-existing conditions.
- Saying he opposed the new law capping insulin at $35/month and allowing Medicare to negotiate for lower drug costs. Brown called this bill “a big loss for the American people.”
- Calling for “painful” cuts across federal departments, threatening massive cuts to Nevada schools and ending the enforcement of the Clean Air and Water Acts.
- Saying he would have voted against the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that’s bringing thousands of good-paying jobs to Nevada and rebuilding our infrastructure. Brown has made clear that he would be a vote to repeal this historic legislation. Brown has even openly attacked federal funding from the bill for the job-creating and tourism-supporting high-speed rail project.
- Supporting restarting Yucca Mountain as a nuclear waste repository. Re-opening Yucca, like Brown wants, would turn our state into the nation’s nuclear dumping ground and is consistently opposed by Nevada’s scientific, business, and political leaders.
Sam Brown is a MAGA extremist who will always put partisan politics and corporate special interests ahead of what’s best for Nevada.
- Brown has spent the past few months ignoring local press and instead taking part in a far-right media tour to tout his MAGA credentials, including telling Fox News that he is “extremely conservative” and saying that Trump “motivated” him to run for office.
- Brown was a vocal supporter of the MAGA efforts to overturn the 2020 election and throw out Nevada’s votes. Brown also downplayed the violence during the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, which led to the deaths of five police officers, saying that the rioters were showing a “patriotic expression” of their “love of country.”
- Brown wants to extend Trump’s massive tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy and giant corporations at the expense of Nevada’s middle-class families and small businesses, a plan that leading economists have found would add trillions of dollars to the deficit over the next decade.
