Today, the Nevada State Democratic Party Native American Caucus Chair Teresa Melendez released the following statement on Indigenous Peoples’ Day:
“Today, the Nevada State Democratic Party Chair honors Indigenous Peoples’ Day, a time to remember the incredible resilience of Native American communities and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions we have made across history, especially here in Nevada. Nevada is home to the Great Basin Tribes of the Numu (Northern Paiute), Newe (Western Shoshone), Nuwu (Southern Paiute), and the Wašiw (Washoe), each of which share unique history and contributions. As we reflect on this day, we remember that we are on Native land not just today, but every day. Nevada Democrats reaffirm our commitment to advancing justice, equity, and opportunity for Native American communities and working together to build a more inclusive and respectful future for all.”
