NV Dems Ready to Oversee First in the West Primary Amid Threat to Democracy

Today marks 30 days until Nevada voters cast their ballot in the historic First in the West Primary for the White House. NV Dems has been hard at work creating the foundation required to execute our first primary, which has earned a top spot in the presidential nominating calendar, ensure that we have free and fair elections, and re-elect President Joe Biden and Democrats down the ballot.

It’s not lost on us that today’s milestone also coincides with the third anniversary of the deadly insurrection on our nation’s capital – an attack on our democracy and the very values on which our nation was founded that was encouraged by former president Donald Trump and instigated by prominent fake electors within the Nevada GOP. While Republicans continue to rig the process for Trump, NV Dems is ensuring that the First in the West primary will be fully transparent and accessible to all Nevada voters.

There is so much that hangs in the balance in 2024. Our very rights and freedoms are on the ballot in November, and NV Dems will continue to do the work necessary to make sure that voters send President Biden back to the White House so that he can continue to fight for Nevada families and defend our democracy.

Because of Democrats, Nevada Elections are More Accessible

Nevada Democrats have worked hard to ensure that every Nevadan has access to the ballot box, including by making it law that the state hold a Presidential Preference Primary every presidential year instead of a caucus, which has historically left many voters out. Democrats also implemented critical legislation expanding voting rights, including universal vote-by-mail, same-day voter registration, and expanded early voting.

In contrast, the Nevada GOP has chosen to make things more confusing for voters and hold their own caucus two days after the state primary – all in the name of manipulating the process for Trump.

While the Nevada GOP continues to deal with the consequences of the mess that they created – one that will lead to two Republican victors, even if one is in name only — Nevada Democrats are capitalizing on the primary to engage voters in key constituencies ahead of November..

How to Vote in the First in the West Primary

Nevadans can check their voter registration status by visiting iwillvote.com/nv ahead of the start of voting. All registered voters will receive a ballot by mail and can return their ballot via mail or at a dropbox location.

  • Early Voting: Begins on Saturday, January 27 and runs through Friday, February 2.
  • Presidential Preference Primary: Election Day is Tuesday, February 6.

If choosing to vote in person on the day of the primary, Nevadans can vote at any location in the county in which they live. You can find your nearest polling location  on the Secretary of State’s website.

The Stakes Have Never Been Higher

NV Dems knows that our primary will set the tune for the rest of the election cycle, and we are educating voters about how they can participate in this historic process and everything at stake in 2024. Our primary is the critical first step of the most critical general elections of our lifetimes. Nevada remains a crucial battleground state that will not only decide the fate of the presidential election, but also determine the U.S. Senate majority  and is home to three competitive congressional races.

NV Dems have been hard at work to ensure our voters are mobilized and energized through the primary and November 5, when we re-elect President Biden, Kamala Harris, Jacky Rosen, Dina Titus, Steven Horsford, and Susie Lee, and maintain a Democratic State Legislature. Our democracy depends on it.
