Yesterday, the Nevada State Democratic Party unveiled billboards in Las Vegas and Reno to remind voters that in the midst of GOP-manufactured hardship, Joe Lombardo supports Trump’s tariffs and thinks Nevadans should “feel a little pain” from them.
This comes after it was determined that Nevada is expected to see a $350 million decline in revenue after the state’s Economic Forum announced a $191 million drop in revenue for the general budget on top of an anticipated drop of $160 million for the State Education Fund, due in large part to Trump’s reckless tariff policies. This is the first time since the Great Recession that projected revenue has decreased mid-Legislative Session.
As Trump’s reckless tariffs pummel the economy and raise costs for working families and businesses, all with Lombardo’s backing, reports reveal that since Trump started his trade wars, travel to Las Vegas has declined by hundreds of thousands of visitors each month as foreign visitors opt not to come to the United States. In March, travel to Las Vegas was down 7.8% and hotel occupancy was down 2.4%, when compared to this time last year. Gaming revenue has also taken a hit, down almost 14% in February
An independent study estimates that the cumulative impact of Trump’s tariffs will result in an average effective pay cut of $3,800 for U.S. households as the tariffs force costs to go up. And as Nevada faces an ongoing housing crisis, Trump’s tariffs are making it more expensive to build homes.
All of this tariff-induced “pain” is what Joe Lombardo supports, and the Nevada State Democratic Party will continue to remind voters of that fact. These billboards are the latest efforts to do so, following a digital ad launched by the party last month.
