One year ago, Joe Lombardo told KTNV that legislation keeping working families in their homes is just a “crutch for lack of performance of the renter.” Lombardo said he vetoed legislation that would have kept more Nevadans in their homes by catching up on rent because he wanted to “remove the excuse of government taking care of [renters]” and renters “not [making] an effort.” Now, Clark County has one of the highest eviction rates in the country and homelessness has hit its highest peak since the Great Recession. In the past year alone there have been over 47,000 evictions in Clark County, up from 30,000 evictions in 2023 when there were an average of 70 eviction cases going through eviction court daily in the county.
Under Lombardo, Nevada is facing one of the toughest housing crises in the nation and as home prices reach record highs and thousands of working families face evictions, Joe Lombardo is prioritizing the bottom line of special interests like the slumlord billionaire who bankrolled his gubernatorial campaign over working class Nevadans.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Tai Sims:
“One year later, Joe Lombardo’s inaction and obstruction have only worsened Nevada’s housing crisis. Rather than keeping Nevadans in their homes, Lombardo is more concerned with catering to his political donors.”
